The best part of this engagement session for me, as a photographer, was how willing Jenn and Mike were to just go around all over the city of Phoenix, and take our time! When we came to a cool spot for photos, we had time to stop and basically play!
Highlands Church Wedding in Scottsdale, Arizona
In no particular order, here are some photos from Jessica and Stan’s wedding in October 2008! Jessica found me on my old blog and we met at Lux Coffee on Central in Phoenix to discuss what she was looking for in wedding photography. I just thought she was the coolest person right away and seriously experienced joy hanging out with her at coffee. Some time later my sister and I photographed Jessica and Stan’s engagement session. We went to the LOVE statue in Scottsdale and then to the ASU campus and to the Mill Avenue bridge for really fun engagement photos.
They got married at Highlands Church in Scottsdale, Arizona located at 9050 E Pinnacle Peak Rd Suite 100, Scottsdale, AZ 85255. They had the theme of Love Birds for their decorations and decorated with bright red and a vintage style. Highlands Church was a fantastic location for a wedding; I would love to photograph another wedding there.
I recently read that Highlands Church has created an inclusive/universal playground with shade and a splash pad! I haven’t gone to check it out, but I absolutely plan to take my 4 year old nephew there very soon!
So here are some photos from their 2008 wedding. The formatting might be a little off because I have posted these images in other places.
Tilt Shift Engagement Photos!
These photos are from quite some time ago! These are engagement photos for Jenn and Mike. We started out in downtown Phoenix at Lola Coffee, went across the street to a little park, then we went uptown to Smeeks and Francis, and then to downtown Scottsdale to take photos in the tiny secret alley, at the LOVE statue and around the Scottsdale Civic Center. Jenn brought origami paper birds that she had created that she was going to use as part of her wedding decor.
I used a tilt shift lens for a lot of these photos. Tilt shift lenses are super fun to use for photo shoots and make dreamy images. They are mostly meant for shooting architecture, but about ten years ago wedding photographers were using them a bunch. I don’t see this trend nowadays, but I don’t think it looks dated, I still think it looks fun and enchanting. I don’t own a tilt shift lens, but I can easily rent one if you like this look and want to have it for your own photo shoot.
